Erv, what was your favorite novel you wrote or one that was most popular? I want to pick up one up, so I can see your work! My gf is a big time book nerd, so I feel I should read too, just not as much

My favorite - and most ambitious - is "WESTERN STAR". It's about 65% fact and 35% fiction, telling the story of the most important ride of the Pony Express.

It's also my only serious novel.

If you'd rather laugh out loud while reading, I'd suggest you start with "THE VELVET BRAND" (Rated R)- the first in a series of five books dealing with a couple of not-too-bright cowboys and how a simple cattle drive ends with... well, never mind.

Read that one and I'll have you hooked until you've read the other four. (Your GF will be impressed!)

Then there is "ALL THE GLORY GONE", a collection of short stories, one or two essays and a memoir of my father - who was the best bronco buster in Illinois.

All are available at lulu.com

And if you want something really quick (and cheap), one of my favorites among my short stories is here:

http://www.sniplits.com/storiesforauthor.jsp?a=446

It's an audio rendition of the story and can be downloaded to your computer or Ipod and it's suitable for family listening.

You're referring to "THE CHEYENNE BRAND" which is second in the series.

In order, they are:

THE VELVET BRAND
THE CHEYENNE BRAND
SEVEN AGAINST TEXAS
THE VELVET SCAR
THE LEGEND OF THE CHEYENNE KID

You'll find amorous women in all of them - which is why I said they're rated "R".

"WESTERN STAR" and "ALL THE GLORY GONE" are not part of the series. and may be read as the spirit moves you.

Yes, I do get royalties.

Since it was the Administrator who hijacked this one, we may not be as good as we thought.

Just goes to show you can never predict anyone who represents himself as a rampaging moose.

On our our car forums, it's called the "Ramble about anyting thread..."

the prancing moose is actually a tongue-in-cheek volvo thing, one off from Ferrari's prancing horse. i love Volvos, and happen to be Norwegian so I swapped that out with the Swedish flag. i also have this very avatar tattoo'd on my back as well Wink

I can't do it!
I simply can't!
I cannot let this valuable thread be turned into a tattoo admiration society!

(It's a nice tat, Cal, but it's still a G--D----- moose! If you wanted something Scandinavian, why not Thor's hammer or Odin's raven... or a codfish?)

Now for some serious hijacking...

Building a mosque at Ground Zero may be a moot point by now, but I had the solution to the problem months before it finally went away.

First of all, where ya gonna get people to build the thing? You want anything built in New York you gotta hire some guys from Brooklyn, right?

So all it would have taken would be for a couple of these Broolyn hardheaded hardhats to bring pork rinds in their lunch and mix a few in the mortar - and don't tell anyone what you did until the dedication ceremony.

(Even better: DON'T put pork rinds in the mortar, but say they did!) (No crime, no hard time.)

Same effect. The owners would have this wonderful building and nothing to do with it except rent it to infidels or donate it to the YMCA.

Problem solved.

i see no "Administrator" or "Moderator" next to Lance39 or under Lance39 :

I wouldn't expect you to understand it. Technically in our language it's "elg" not moose. Thor's hammer tattoo is what kids that read too many comic books/black metalers/trashy white supremacists get. I have no desire to get a tattoo that is so cliche, and part of a long gone religion. It doesn't represent Norway in any way regardless. Mine does.

"i see no "Administrator" or "Moderator" next to Lance39 or under Lance39 :"

I doubt I'd mind either of you being next to me, but... Never mind.

My remedy for tattoo talk was simply to re-hijack the thread.

As for Thor and Odin, I've never read the comic books. My exposure to Norse mythology came from our fourth grade library and it's fascinating stuff.

Incidentally, when I was engaged in researching my family tree I found a branch that led back to Odin. His address was given as Valhalla.

P.S,: I didn't include that line in my family history.
